When the pandemic hit and travel restrictions kept us grounded, we found ourselves desperately missing the crisp mountain air and stunning vistas of the Canadian Rockies. That's when we discovered the magic of 4K virtual hiking – and honestly, it became our saving grace during those long Toronto winters.

We've always been huge fans of Banff and Jasper, having visited multiple times to celebrate our anniversary and escape the city hustle. There's something about Lake Louise's turquoise waters that never fails to take our breath away, no matter how many times we've seen it. And don't get us started on the challenging trek up Whistlers Peak – that panoramic view of the Jasper Valley is pure poetry.

These virtual hikes became our weekend ritual. We'd brew some Vietnamese coffee (Samantha's specialty) and make fresh parathas (Amir's mom's recipe), then settle in for a digital adventure. The 4K quality is so crisp that we could almost smell the pine trees and feel the mountain breeze. It sounds cheesy, but it genuinely helped us stay connected to the places that hold so much meaning for us as a couple.

Pro tip: Watch these on the biggest screen you have – we used our projector and it felt incredibly immersive.

While nothing truly replaces being there in person, these virtual experiences reminded us why we fell in love with the Rockies in the first place. They also gave us serious wanderlust and helped us plan our next real adventure.

Have you tried virtual hiking? We'd love to hear about your favorite digital escapes!
