Calgary Trip (Part 1)

We finally made it to Calgary! After months of talking about exploring more of our beautiful country beyond Ontario, we packed our bags and headed west to Alberta. There's something magical about discovering new Canadian cities together – each one tells a different story of what it means to call this diverse country home.

Our first impression? Calgary is massive. Coming from Toronto, we thought we knew what sprawling cities looked like, but the way Calgary stretches out against those stunning Rocky Mountain foothills took our breath away. The downtown core has this interesting mix of gleaming corporate towers and western charm that feels uniquely Albertan.

We spent our first day wandering through the Plus 15 walkway system (genius for those brutal winters!) and exploring Stephen Avenue. The street art scene here is incredible – we found ourselves stopping every few blocks to snap photos of murals that celebrate everything from Indigenous culture to the city's oil heritage.

One thing that struck us immediately was how friendly everyone is. Maybe it's that famous western hospitality, but we've had more genuine conversations with strangers in two days here than we typically do in a month back home. At a local coffee shop, an elderly gentleman heard our Toronto accents and spent twenty minutes giving us insider tips about hidden gems around the city.

The food scene is already exceeding our expectations too – we discovered this amazing Vietnamese-Punjabi fusion truck that had us feeling right at home while trying something completely new.
