Calgary Trip (Part 2) | Calgary Stampede

We couldn't visit Calgary without experiencing the world-famous Calgary Stampede, and honestly, it exceeded every expectation we had! As city folks from Toronto, we weren't sure how we'd feel about the whole cowboy culture, but there's something absolutely magical about this ten-day celebration that draws people from all walks of life.

The moment we walked through the gates, we were hit with the incredible energy – the smell of mini donuts and corn dogs, the sounds of live country music, and families from every background imaginable all celebrating together. Samantha was initially hesitant about the rodeo events, but even she found herself cheering during the barrel racing competitions. Meanwhile, Amir was all in from the start, even attempting to line dance (let's just say his Bhangra moves didn't quite translate).

What struck us most was how welcoming everyone was. We met families who'd been coming for generations, tourists from around the world, and locals who were eager to share their city's pride with us. The midway was pure nostalgia – we probably spent way too much money trying to win stuffed animals and definitely ate our weight in beaver tails.

The evening grandstand show was the perfect finale, with fireworks lighting up the prairie sky. There's something beautiful about experiencing traditions that bring communities together, regardless of where you're from or what you look like.
