Roaming the Streets | Ottawa Trip 2018

We've always loved how Ottawa feels like Toronto's quieter, more refined sibling – and our 2018 trip reminded us exactly why Canada's capital holds such a special place in our hearts.

Walking hand-in-hand through the cobblestone streets of ByWard Market, we couldn't help but smile at how this city embraces everyone. From the maple cookies that Amir insisted on buying at every vendor (seriously, our hotel room looked like a cookie warehouse) to the pho joint Samantha discovered tucked between heritage buildings – Ottawa surprised us with its perfect blend of Canadian charm and multicultural flavors.

The Rideau Canal became our daily ritual. Each morning, we'd grab coffee and wander along the water, watching joggers and dog walkers start their day. There's something magical about a city where you can transition from parliamentary grandeur to intimate neighborhood cafés within a few blocks.

What struck us most was stumbling upon the Somerset Street Chinatown during our random explorations. Samantha felt that familiar warmth of seeing her culture represented, while Amir marveled at how seamlessly it blended into Ottawa's fabric. We ended up spending an entire afternoon there, chatting with shop owners and sampling dim sum.

Parliament Hill at sunset was our grand finale – watching the changing of the guard while sharing a BeaverTail (yes, we're total tourists and proud of it!).
