Day 6: Our Punta Cana Babymoon
We're sharing everything from our sixth and final full day of our Punta Cana babymoon — the slow mornings, the bittersweet last swims, and why this trip meant so much to us before becoming a family of three.
Day 6: Our Punta Cana Babymoon
There's something about the last full day of a trip that hits differently. You wake up and the sunlight feels the same, the ocean smells the same, the sounds of the resort are completely unchanged — but you know. You know it's almost over, and suddenly you want to hold onto every single moment a little tighter.
That's exactly how Day 6 of our Punta Cana babymoon felt.
If you haven't been following along, this trip has been something we planned for months. When we found out we were expecting, one of the first things we said to each other was "we need one last big trip, just the two of us — well, two and a half of us." Punta Cana made perfect sense. It's warm, it's beautiful, the all-inclusive format means Samantha could rest without us having to think too hard about logistics, and honestly, the Dominican Republic has been on our list for years.
Slow Mornings Are Underrated
We've learned over the course of this babymoon that slow mornings are not a luxury — they're a necessity, especially when you're travelling while pregnant. By Day 6 we had fully leaned into this rhythm. No alarms. Room service coffee for Amir, fresh fruit and a decaf for Samantha, and sitting out on our little balcony just... talking. About the baby. About names (still not settled, by the way — don't ask). About how strange and exciting it is that the next time we take a big trip, there will be a tiny human with us who will have absolutely no interest in sleeping in.
We laughed a lot that morning. It felt like the kind of conversation you can only have when you've genuinely unplugged from everything back home.
The Beach, One More Time
We made a point of getting to the beach early on Day 6, before the chairs filled up and the midday heat rolled in. Samantha found her favourite spot — same one she'd claimed on Day 2 — under a palm that gave just enough shade. Amir went for one last swim in that impossibly turquoise water while Samantha sat with her feet in the sand and just existed for a while. No phone. No planning. Just the sound of the waves and the feeling of the baby kicking, which happened to be pretty active that morning, as if she knew something was wrapping up too.
If you're planning a babymoon and wondering whether Punta Cana is the right call — honestly, yes. The resort we stayed at was incredibly accommodating. The staff were warm and attentive without being intrusive, and when they found out we were expecting, there were little thoughtful touches throughout the trip that we didn't even ask for. It made everything feel special.
A Few Tips If You're Doing a Babymoon Here
We learned a few things over these six days that we wish someone had told us:
- Book a room with a bathtub. Samantha used it every single evening and it was genuinely one of the best parts of the trip for her tired feet and back.
- Hydrate obsessively. The heat is real and when you're pregnant your body is already working overtime. We kept water bottles with us everywhere.
- Ask your resort about pregnancy-safe spa treatments early. We didn't ask until Day 3 and by then some of the appointment slots were gone. Book ahead!
- Embrace the early dinners. We were in bed by 9:30 almost every night. Zero regrets. We weren't there for the nightlife — we were there for each other, and for rest.
- Let yourself be slow. This is the whole point. Don't fill every hour. The best memories from this trip came from the unscheduled moments.
The Bittersweet Part
After dinner on Day 6 we took a long walk along the beach as the sun went down. It was one of those sunsets that looks almost fake — all orange and pink and gold reflecting off the water. Amir held Samantha's hand and we just walked slowly, not saying very much.
We both knew what this trip represented. It was the last chapter of our relationship as just the two of us — before we become parents, before our whole world reshapes itself around this little person we can't wait to meet. That's not a sad thing. It's a beautiful thing. But it felt worth honouring.
This babymoon wasn't just a vacation. It was a pause. A breath. A love letter to this season of our life before the next one begins.
We're so glad we did it. We're so glad we have it documented — for us, for our baby someday, and for all of you who have been cheering us on.
