Remember Aruba? | February 2025 #Shorts
A look back at our February 2025 escape to Aruba, with the memories that stuck and the tips we'd pass on to anyone planning a winter beach trip from Canada.
Every so often a memory pops up on our phones and we both stop what we're doing. This time it was Aruba, February 2025. We put together a quick Short to look back on it, and it turned into a full-on "remember when?" conversation over dinner. So we're expanding it here, because a 60-second clip can't hold everything we want to say about that trip.
Why February Is the Month to Leave Ontario
If you live in Mississauga, you know what February feels like. The snow has stopped being pretty, the sky stays grey for days, and the sidewalk is a mix of salt and slush. Boarding a plane and getting off in warm, bright air is a small miracle.
That contrast is a big part of why the trip stuck with us. Stepping outside the airport into sunshine after weeks of winter did something to our moods right away. We've said it before: sometimes the best travel decision isn't about the destination, it's about the timing.
What We Loved About Aruba
Here's what we'd tell a friend who asked us about it.
The weather is dependable. Aruba sits outside the main hurricane belt and is known for being dry, with steady trade winds. That means a much better chance of sunny days than most Caribbean options in winter. The breeze also takes the edge off the heat, which we appreciated.
The water is the star. The colours look almost unreal. We spent a lot of our time just floating, walking the shoreline, and watching the light change through the day.
It's easy to get around. Whether you rent a car, take taxis, or use the local bus, you can cover a lot of the island without much stress. That matters when you're travelling as a couple and want the trip to feel relaxing, not like a logistics project.
The food and the mix of cultures. Aruba's history and its mix of influences show up on the plate and in the conversations you have. As a Vietnamese and Punjabi couple, we always gravitate toward places where food tells a story, and we tried to eat where locals eat whenever we could.
Tips If You're Planning a Similar Trip
We're not travel agents, just a couple who learned a few things along the way. These are the ones we'd pass on.
- Book early for February. It's peak season for Canadians escaping winter, so flights and rooms fill up and prices climb. Locking things in a few months ahead makes a real difference.
- Pack reef-friendly sunscreen. You'll be in the sun a lot, and protecting the water you're swimming in is part of being a good guest.
- Bring a light layer for evenings. The wind can feel cooler after sunset than you'd expect, especially if you're dining outdoors.
- Build in slow days. It's tempting to fill every hour. Our best moments were the unplanned ones, like a long walk or an extra hour at the beach.
- Check your documents early. Confirm passport validity and any entry requirements well before you fly, so nothing catches you off guard at the airport.
If you're the type who loves a checklist before any trip, we made a similar one after our time in France. Our post on the top 10 mistakes in Paris is the same idea: learn from what we got wrong so your trip goes smoother.
Travelling Together, Keeping It Real
One thing we try to be honest about is that travel isn't always picture-perfect. There are delayed flights, tired moods, and the occasional disagreement over where to eat. What makes a trip work for us is how we handle those moments together. We wrote more about that in Traveling as an Interracial Couple: What We've Learned, and a lot of it applies whether you're on a beach in the Caribbean or wandering a city street.
Aruba was a reminder of why we started KhelaMeetsWorld. We wanted to document real travel with all its highlights and its quiet, ordinary moments, not just the polished ones.
If You Love Beach Getaways, Start Here
If Aruba has you daydreaming about sand and sunshine, we have more to share. Take a look at our Hilton Playa Del Carmen walk-through for another warm-weather escape, with a closer look at what it's like to stay there.
Looking Back, Looking Ahead
It's funny how a short clip can bring a whole trip flooding back: the warmth, the laughter, and that feeling of having nowhere else to be. Whenever winter drags on, we'll be digging through our Aruba footage for a little reminder that the sun always comes back.
Have you been to Aruba, or is it on your list? Tell us in the comments on YouTube. We'd love to hear your favourite spots, your must-try foods, and anything we should do next time.
