We thought we knew each other pretty well after dating for three years, but wow – marriage has been a whole new level of discovery! It's funny how saying "I do" suddenly opens up conversations and moments we never experienced before.

The little things caught us off guard the most. Like how Amir's family has this beautiful tradition of starting each morning with chai and checking in with extended family, while Sam's Vietnamese household begins the day with quiet meditation and pho prep. We're still figuring out how to blend these rhythms into our own morning routine.

Then there are the assumptions we didn't even know we had. We realized we both had completely different ideas about everything from how to handle finances (thanks, cultural money mindsets!) to what "family time" looks like during holidays. Navigating between Diwali celebrations and Tet preparations has been an adventure in coordination and compromise.

But here's what surprised us most – how much deeper our appreciation for each other's cultures has grown. Living together daily means Sam now knows the difference between different types of rotis, and Amir can finally pronounce Vietnamese dish names correctly (mostly!).

The beautiful part? Every "oh, I didn't know you did that" moment has brought us closer. Whether it's learning about each other's comfort foods during stressful times or discovering new family stories, marriage keeps revealing new layers.

What surprised you most about your partner after taking the big step? We'd love to hear your stories!
