We've fallen completely head over heels for Mallorca's mountain villages, and today might just be our favorite day yet! After spending nearly two weeks exploring Spain, we decided to escape the coastal crowds and venture into the Serra de Tramuntana mountains – and wow, what a decision that was.

Our first stop was Valldemossa, where we wandered through cobblestone streets lined with honey-colored stone houses adorned with green shutters. The village felt like stepping into a postcard, especially when we discovered the charming monastery where Chopin once composed. We couldn't help but imagine what stories these ancient walls could tell.

Next up was Deià, perched dramatically on the mountainside with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. The artistic energy here is palpable – we spent hours just sitting in a local café, watching painters capture the golden light that seems to dance differently here than anywhere else we've visited.

But Fornalutx absolutely stole our hearts. This tiny village, often called one of Spain's most beautiful, felt like our own private discovery. The terraced orange groves cascading down the hillsides reminded us how travel opens our eyes to different ways of life and landscapes we never knew existed.

As an interracial couple, we love how these small Spanish villages have welcomed us with such warmth – from the elderly abuela who insisted on giving us directions in animated Spanish-Catalan mix, to the young café owner who was genuinely curious about our Canadian roots.

Have you ever stumbled upon a place that completely changed your travel plans? We'd love to hear about your unexpected discoveries!
