We woke up in Zurich feeling that familiar mix of jet lag and pure excitement that comes with touching down in a new country. After grabbing what might have been the most expensive coffee of our lives at the airport (seriously, Switzerland doesn't mess around with prices!), we decided to explore Zurich briefly before heading to our main destination: Lucerne.

First Impressions of Zurich

The city immediately struck us with its pristine cleanliness and efficiency. Coming from Toronto, we thought we knew what organized public transit looked like, but Swiss trains are on another level entirely. We spent a few hours wandering around the old town, marveling at the medieval architecture and the crystal-clear Limmat River.

One thing we've noticed traveling as an interracial couple is how different cities make us feel, and Zurich felt refreshingly cosmopolitan. The diversity here reminded us a bit of home, which was comforting after our long journey.

Off to Lucerne

By early afternoon, we boarded the train to Lucerne, and wow – the Swiss countryside is absolutely breathtaking. Rolling green hills, picture-perfect villages, and those iconic Swiss chalets that look almost too perfect to be real. Samantha kept nudging me every few minutes saying "look at that!" while I tried to capture everything on camera.

The train ride itself felt like a scenic tour, with massive windows offering panoramic views of lakes and mountains. We couldn't help but feel grateful for this opportunity to explore together.

What's your favorite train journey you've ever taken? We'd love to hear about it in the comments below!
