Our third day in Spain took us on an incredible adventure to Montserrat, and wow, what a spiritual and physical journey it turned out to be! We caught an early train from Barcelona, watching the dramatic jagged peaks of this sacred mountain emerge from the morning mist.

The St Jeroni hike definitely tested our fitness levels – we're talking about climbing to the highest peak at 1,236 meters! But every steep step was worth it for those breathtaking panoramic views. Sam kept stopping to capture the otherworldly rock formations (her photography game is seriously next level), while Amir channeled his inner mountain goat and practically bounded up the trails.

What struck us most was visiting the Basilica de Montserrat afterward. There's something deeply moving about experiencing sacred spaces from different cultures when you come from such diverse backgrounds yourselves. Hearing the famous boys' choir echo through the basilica gave us both goosebumps – it reminded us how music transcends all boundaries, just like our own multicultural love story.

The Black Madonna was absolutely mesmerizing, and we loved learning about the centuries of pilgrimage history. As a couple who's always exploring how different traditions can coexist beautifully, Montserrat felt like the perfect metaphor for our relationship – two distinct elements coming together to create something extraordinary.

The funicular ride down was the perfect way to decompress after such an intense day of hiking and cultural immersion.

Have you ever had a travel experience that felt deeply spiritual? We'd love to hear about your own sacred mountain adventures!
