We woke up early on our sixth day in Rome, determined to tackle the Eternal City's most iconic attractions without melting in the Mediterranean heat. Pro tip: book your Colosseum tickets online in advance! We learned this the hard way watching tourists queue for hours while we breezed through with our pre-purchased combo passes.

The Colosseum absolutely lived up to the hype. Standing where gladiators once fought, we couldn't help but marvel at the engineering genius of ancient Rome. What struck us most was how multicultural the empire was – seeing artifacts from across Africa, Asia, and Europe reminded us that diversity has always been Rome's strength.

Palatine Hill offered incredible views and a peaceful escape from the crowds below. We spent over an hour exploring the ruins of imperial palaces, imagining the lavish banquets that once took place there. The audio guide was worth every euro!

The Roman Forum felt like walking through history itself. Samantha was fascinated by the ancient market stalls, while Amir geeked out over the political significance of the Senate House.

Our hidden gem discovery was the Basilica of San Clemente – this underground church has three layers spanning 2,000 years of history. The 12th-century mosaics upstairs are stunning, but descending into the 4th-century basilica and 1st-century Mithraic temple below felt like time travel.

Essential tip: Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Rome's cobblestones are unforgiving, and you'll be walking for hours.

What's your must-see Rome attraction? We'd love to hear about your favorite discoveries in the comments!
